Adventures in Oil and Cold Wax Painting

My next class will be at my studio in Portland next spring.(2026).  Below is a typical class description:

Join me at my Portland, Oregon studio for this 4-day beginning/refresher workshop and discover ways to create fascinating paintings with this delicious medium! We’ll cover mixing paint and wax, texturing and smoothing (with weird tools), mark-making and incising, and using additives to the oil and wax mixture. We’ll also cover composition, adding unique touches, and presenting your pieces. We’ll work on wood panels and Arches Oil Paper. You’ll leave with rich and luminous pieces, works in progress, and the knowledge to continue exploring this exciting medium on your own.

This workshop will free you to experiment with confidence. You can add and subtract elements all the way through, so no worries about “mistakes.” Some lovely things can happen accidentally, and changes are easy to make. We’ll have demonstrations, time to work, and time for sharing and questions. The process of interacting with your materials in an open and exploratory way will lead you to making pieces you love.

Class limited to four students.
